LEASING - THE WAVE OF THE FUTURE
Many individuals and companies are turning to leasing as an alternative to Capital Expenditure, or down payments, as a method of financing the use of vehicles or equipment over a specific period of time. As a result, leasing is one of the fastest growing financial services in North America.
There exists a sharp trend towards leasing, which economic observers call "a trend away from ownership."
The cost of owning a vehicle or a piece of equipment has encouraged individuals and businesses to consider leasing as a preferable alternative to ownership. In short, experts state that "leasing is becoming a new way of life and will continue to grow."
In the opinion of William R. McCreedy, Manager, Leasing Division, Ford Motor Company, "...leasing is the wave of the future. We lease everything as a culture. People lease homes and vehicles, companies lease machines and equipment. Ownership is not as important as it used to be, leasing has become a prestige thing."
Much as a building owner (lessor) leases space to a tenant (lessee), an equipment lessor will lease almost anything - cars, trucks, vans, office furnishings and equipment, medical and dental equipment, computers, communication equipment, or virtually any kind of machinery or equipment.
These items are leased to individuals and companies for a mutually agreed upon period of time, usually 2 to 5 years. The lessee may select the company, make and model of equipment or vehicle he chooses, with the cost remaining at a fixed monthly amount over the term he selects. In effect, inflation is being offset by paying tomorrow at today's prices.
Through leasing, the lessee is able to enjoy full, exclusive use of equipment or vehicles while receiving possible tax benefits and savings. Lines of credit, working capital and cash reserves are also preserved for other needs. As well, terms of a lease can be tailored to meet the needs of each particular client.
